Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper cells but can also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is expressed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 aids in T-cell activation through interaction with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
