이 유전자는 heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) 복합체의 다기능 단백질 성분을 암호화합니다. hnRNP 복합체는 pre-mRNA 스플라이싱과 완전한 mRNA의 세포질 수출에 관여합니다.
이 단백질은 FET 계열 RNA 결합 단백질에 속하며, 유전자 발현 조절, 유전체 안정성 유지, mRNA/microRNA 처리 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사 변형체가 생성되며, 해당 유전자의 결함은 amyotrophic lateral sclerosis type 6과 관련이 있습니다.
