Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in various cellular processes that alter RNA secondary structure, including translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some members of this protein family are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cell growth and division.
The DHX16 gene encodes a DEAD box protein homologous to the fission yeast Prp8 protein, which is involved in cell cycle progression. It is mapped to the MHC region on chromosome 6p21.3, linked to multiple malignant, genetic, and autoimmune diseases. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
