Also known as p44 or MTAP44 (microtubule-associated protein 44), IFI-44 is a 444 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that aggregates into microtubular structures upon induction by IFN-β.
Human IFI-44 shares 97% sequence similarity with chimpanzee, indicating high conservation.
The IFI-44 gene is located on human chromosome 1, which contains over 3,000 genes and accounts for approximately 8% of the human genome.
Chromosome 1 includes several disease-associated genes related to familial adenomatous polyposis, Stickler syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Gaucher disease, schizophrenia, and Usher syndrome.
