This gene encodes a trafficking membrane protein that transports proteins among the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi, and between Golgi compartments. It is an essential component of the Golgi SNAP receptor (SNARE) complex. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
