Target Information

This gene encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme that mediates acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase-dependent organelle acidification is essential for intracellular processes such as:

  • Protein sorting
  • Zymogen activation
  • Receptor-mediated endocytosis
  • Synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation

V-ATPase consists of:

  • V1 domain: three A, three B, two G subunits plus C, D, E, F, and H subunits (ATP catalytic site)
  • V0 domain: five subunits (a, c, c′, c″, and d)

Multiple isoforms are encoded by distinct genes or alternatively spliced transcript variants.
This gene encodes the V1 domain D subunit protein.
