Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor regulating T and B cell signaling through dual ITIM motifs that serve as docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases upon phosphorylation.
It is expressed throughout the vascular system, mainly at cell junctions, and its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding important for cell-cell interactions.
CD31 plays diverse roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, negative regulation of immune receptor signaling, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis.
It is a key regulatory molecule in the vascular system.
