Target Information
Adrenomedullin (ADM) is a vasodilator produced by contractile cells and exhibits persistent hypotensive activity. It plays a role in regulating fluid and electrolyte homeostasis and maintaining cardiovascular function. In hypertensive patients, plasma ADM levels are elevated. ADM induces natriuresis through increased glomerular filtration and decreased distal tubular sodium reabsorption. Present in both peripheral tissues and the brain, ADM also exerts central effects such as reducing food intake.
