Each of the twenty aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases catalyzes the aminoacylation of a specific tRNA or tRNA isoaccepting family with the cognate amino acid.
It catalyzes the reaction:
ATP + L-cysteine + tRNA(Cys) → AMP + diphosphate + L-cysteinyl-tRNA(Cys)
