Target Information
The gene encodes a member of the actin family, a group of highly conserved proteins involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity. Alpha actins are major components of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins regulate cell motility. Skeletal muscle actin is an alpha actin isoform found in muscle tissue. Mutations in this gene are associated with several congenital myopathies, including nemaline myopathy type 3 and congenital myopathy with fiber-type disproportion.
