Target Information
The D4 dopamine receptor is a G-protein coupled receptor that inhibits adenylyl cyclase. It is a pharmacological target for drugs treating schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease. Mutations in the DRD4 gene are associated with behavioral phenotypes such as autonomic nervous system dysfunction, ADHD, and novelty seeking. The gene contains a polymorphic number (2–10 copies) of tandem 48 nt repeats; the sequence shown contains four repeats.
