Target Information
Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) is an integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum that catalyzes the formation of monounsaturated fatty acids from saturated fatty acids.
SCD may regulate energy metabolism and play a role in obesity and dyslipidemia.
Four SCD isoforms (Scd1–Scd4) have been identified in mouse, while two isoforms (SCD1 and SCD5) exist in humans.
SCD1 shares ~85% amino acid identity with all mouse and rat SCD isoforms, whereas SCD5 shows limited homology and appears unique to primates.
