Target Information
Cyclin E belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance through the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases and exhibit distinct expression and degradation patterns, coordinating mitotic events. Cyclin E forms a complex with CDK2, required for G1/S transition, and is degraded during S phase. Overexpression is linked to chromosome instability and tumorigenesis. It interacts with NPAT protein, involved in histone gene expression and cell-cycle progression without pRB. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms; additional variants exist but are not fully characterized.
