The Human Alpha-1-Microglobulin ProcartaPlex Simplex Kit measures alpha-1-microglobulin protein and can be combined with other Simplex kits to create custom multiplex panels utilizing Luminex xMAP technology for protein detection and quantitation. When combining multiple Simplex kits, only one buffer kit (sold separately) is needed per assay plate regardless of plex size.

About ProcartaPlex Assays for the Luminex Platform

ProcartaPlex immunoassays are based on the sandwich ELISA principle, using two highly specific antibodies binding to different epitopes of a single protein to quantify multiple targets simultaneously using a Luminex instrument. These assays require as little as 25 μL of plasma or serum, or 50 μL of cell culture supernatant, and deliver analyzed results in about four hours.

ProcartaPlex assays use Luminex xMAP (multianalyte profiling) technology for simultaneous detection and quantitation of up to 65 protein targets in a single 25–50 μL sample from plasma, serum, cell culture supernatants, and other bodily fluids.

The Luminex beads are internally dyed with precise proportions of red and infrared fluorophores to create spectrally unique signatures identifiable by Luminex detection systems (e.g., Luminex 200, FLEXMAP 3D, MAGPIX). Similar to a sandwich ELISA, matched antibody pairs identify the protein of interest. Each bead, labeled with a specific antibody, binds its target protein, which is then detected with biotinylated antibodies and streptavidin–R-phycoerythrin (RPE).

Unlike ELISA, the capture antibody in a ProcartaPlex assay is conjugated to a bead rather than adsorbed to a microplate well, allowing reagents to remain free-floating in solution. The Luminex 200 instrument uses two lasers: one for bead identification and another to quantify RPE fluorescence, proportional to protein concentration. ProcartaPlex multiplex assays can profile more targets using less sample and similar time compared to traditional ELISA.

ProcartaPlex multiplex panels are available across six species: human, mouse, rat, nonhuman primate, porcine, and canine.
