Mutations in DNA mismatch repair genes are associated with hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). MSH6, also known as GTBP, is an MSH2-related protein that binds to DNA containing G/T mismatches. The mismatch-binding factor in human cells is composed of a heterodimer of GTBP and MSH2.
Target Information
The DNA mismatch repair MSH2/MSH6 heterodimer detects DNA damage and may promote apoptosis in normal cells, protecting mammals from UV-induced malignant transformation and contributing to skin cancer prevention.
