Target Information
Ribosomes, the organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPL8 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L2P family. It is located in the cytoplasm and associates with 5.8S rRNA, likely participating in aminoacyl-tRNA binding and forming part of the elongation factor 2-binding site. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene exist throughout the genome.
