Background
This gene encodes an enzyme belonging to the inositol 1,3,4-trisphosphate 5/6-kinase family. It regulates the synthesis of inositol tetraphosphate and downstream products such as inositol pentakisphosphate and inositol hexakisphosphate. Inositol metabolism is important for neural tube development, and disruptions in this gene are associated with neural tube defects. A pseudogene exists on chromosome X. (RefSeq, Jul 2016)
