Background
The IL-9 receptor (IL9R) is a cytokine receptor that mediates the biological effects of interleukin 9 (IL9). The functional IL9R complex requires IL9R and the interleukin 2 receptor gamma (IL2RG) subunit, shared by various cytokine receptors. Ligand binding activates JAK kinases and STAT proteins, leading to diverse biological responses.
This gene is located in the pseudoautosomal regions of X and Y chromosomes and has been associated with asthma development. Multiple pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 9, 10, 16, and 18. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
