Background
C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2) is a G-protein-coupled receptor that serves as a high-affinity receptor for interleukin-8 (IL8). It mediates IL8-induced signal transduction through a G-protein–activated second messenger system. CXCR2 also binds to chemokine ligand CXCL1/MGSA, contributing to melanoma cell growth and neutrophil migration during inflammation. Additionally, this receptor plays a role in angiogenesis and oligodendrocyte precursor positioning in the developing spinal cord.
