Cellular Localization

Cytoplasm, nucleus, chromosome, centromere, cytoskeleton (spindle), kinetochore, and midbody.
Localizes at centromeres from prophase to metaphase, spindle midzone during anaphase, and midbody during telophase and cytokinesis.
Accumulates in the nucleus upon treatment with leptomycin B (LMB), an XPO1/CRM1 nuclear export inhibitor.
Colocalizes with AURKB at mitotic chromosomes.
Acetylation at Lys-129 directs localization to the nucleus by enhancing nuclear retention.

Background

This gene belongs to the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family, encoding negative regulatory proteins that prevent apoptotic cell death.
Unlike other IAP family members that contain multiple baculovirus IAP repeat (BIR) domains, this gene encodes a protein with only a single BIR domain and lacks a C-terminal RING finger domain.
Expression is high during fetal development and in most tumors, but low in adult tissues.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
