Background
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These RNA-binding proteins form complexes with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and are involved in pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. hnRNP proteins are primarily nuclear but some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The encoded protein can act as a tetramer and participates in the assembly of 40S hnRNP particles. Multiple transcript variants encoding at least two isoforms have been described for this gene.
