Background
This gene is a member of the host cell factor family and encodes a protein with five Kelch repeats, a fibronectin-like motif, and six HCF repeats, each containing a specific cleavage signal. This nuclear coactivator is proteolytically cleaved at one of six sites, producing N-terminal and C-terminal chains that bind noncovalently. The protein is involved in cell cycle control and transcriptional regulation during herpes simplex virus infection. Alternatively spliced variants encoding different isoforms have been described, though not all are fully characterized. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
