Cellular Localization	Cytoplasm, cell cortex. Both at the cell surface and dispersed in the cytoplasm under basal conditions. Upon receptor stimulation, GRK4 internalizes to the perinuclear area, colocalizing with DRD3. DRD3 and GRK4 also colocalize in lipid rafts of renal proximal tubule cells.
Background	This gene encodes a member of the guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein)-coupled receptor kinase subfamily of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. The protein phosphorylates activated forms of G protein-coupled receptors, initiating their deactivation. This gene has been linked to both genetic and acquired hypertension. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. (RefSeq, Nov 2013)
