| Background | This gene encodes a serine protease localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. It is released into the cytosol following apoptotic stimuli and is thought to induce apoptosis by binding to the apoptosis inhibitory protein BIRC4. Nuclear localization has also been observed.
