Background
Mitochondrial membrane ATP synthase (F(1)F(0) ATP synthase or Complex V) produces ATP from ADP using a proton gradient across the membrane generated by electron transport complexes of the respiratory chain.
F-type ATPases consist of two domains:
- F(1): Extramembraneous catalytic core
- F(0): Membrane proton channel
These domains are linked by a central and peripheral stalk. During catalysis, ATP synthesis in F(1) is coupled via a rotary mechanism of the central stalk subunits to proton translocation.
ATP5L2 is a minor subunit located with subunit a in the membrane and belongs to the ATPase g subunit family.
F-type ATPases have two components, CF(1) (catalytic core) and CF(0) (membrane proton channel). CF(0) seems to have nine subunits: a, b, c, d, e, f, g, F6, and 8 (or A6L).
