Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis and exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits. It catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in DNA replication, repair, RNA export, membrane fusion, and microtubule bundling. It plays roles in apoptosis, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer-related processes. GAPDH interacts with proteins such as amyloid precursor protein and Huntingtin, and associates with actin and tubulin.
Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH serves as a reliable protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
