Target Information
PTPLAD1 catalyzes the third reaction of the long-chain fatty acid elongation cycle in the endoplasmic reticulum, adding two carbons per cycle to long- and very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). The enzyme dehydrates the 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA intermediate into trans-2,3-enoyl-CoA. It contributes to the production of VLCFAs involved in membrane lipid and lipid mediator synthesis. PTPLAD1 may also participate in Rac1-signaling pathways, modulating gene expression, and promoting insulin receptor (INSR) autophosphorylation and internalization (PubMed:25687571).
