Target Information
The HSP70 family comprises highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat shock, across all examined organisms. Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible in all organisms; constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: 72 kDa protein induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70 (HSP73): 72 kDa constitutively expressed protein involved in clathrin-coated vesicle uncoating and cytoskeletal rearrangements
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- HSP75 (p75): 75 kDa mitochondrial protein
HSC70 (also known as HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73) is constitutively expressed and slightly heat-inducible. It binds clathrin light chain loops to promote uncoating, interacts with the cytoskeleton, and facilitates lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins. It also prevents aggregation and assists folding of mitochondrial precursor proteins in vitro.
