Target Information

MAPKAPK3 functions as an integrative element of signaling in both mitogen and stress responses. It acts as a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAP kinase)-activated protein kinase. MAP kinases (ERKs) serve as integration points for multiple biochemical signals.
MAPKAPK3 is activated by growth inducers and stress stimulation. In vitro studies show that ERK, p38 MAP kinase, and Jun N-terminal kinase can phosphorylate and activate MAPKAPK3, indicating its role in integrating mitogen and stress response signaling.
MAPKAPK3 interacts with, phosphorylates, and represses E47, a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor involved in tissue-specific gene expression and cell differentiation.
