Target Information

Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) family proteins are essential for various nuclear processes that involve chromosomal structural changes, such as mitotic chromosome organization, DNA recombination and repair, and transcriptional repression.
SMC1 and SMC3 form a heterodimeric complex crucial for metaphase progression and sister chromatid cohesion.
Mutations in the SMC1 gene can lead to Cornelia de Lange syndrome 2.
