Target Information
Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in multiple cellular processes such as protein folding, assembly of multiprotein complexes, and transport across membranes.
They are categorized into six families: HSP90, HSP70, HSP60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP110.
The low molecular weight family includes HSP10, HSP20, HSP27, HSP32, and HSP40.
Chaperonins, such as E. coli GroEL and GroES (HSP10), assist in ATP-dependent protein folding, enhancing yield of properly folded proteins.
HSP10 forms a heptameric ring of 10 kDa subunits that binds to GroEL, forming a symmetric, functional heterodimer.
