Target Information
Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. These receptors are members of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, sharing a 7-transmembrane domain structure common to many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome. The OR12D2 gene is a segregating pseudogene, where some individuals have a functional allele and others have a non-functional allele.
