Target Information

The PCDHA6 gene is part of the protocadherin alpha gene cluster on chromosome 5, one of three related clusters with an organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters.
This cluster includes 15 cadherin superfamily genes (13 highly similar and 2 more distantly related). Each gene has N-terminal variable exons encoding six cadherin ectodomains and shared C-terminal constant exons encoding the cytoplasmic domain.
These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are integral plasma membrane proteins that likely play a key role in establishing and maintaining specific neuronal cell-cell connections in the brain.
Alternative splicing has been observed, and additional variants have been suggested though their full-length forms remain undetermined.
