Target Information
The SP4 gene belongs to a family of Sp1-related genes encoding transcription factors that regulate gene expression by binding to GC- and GT-box regulatory elements. The SP4 protein contains a zinc finger DNA-binding domain and multiple transactivation domains. It can act as a bifunctional transcription factor, either stimulating or repressing transcription of various genes. Multiple transcript variants and isoforms have been identified, including those initiating translation from non-AUG codons. A related pseudogene is located on chromosome 13.
