Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and acts as a component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in spindle checkpoints contribute to genetic instability and may lead to malignant transformation. Human cells contain two related checkpoint protein kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both derived from the BUB1 gene. These kinases monitor mitotic kinetochore-microtubule interactions and are essential for normal mitotic progression. BUBR1 has been detected in various human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), which may promote breast cancer progression by compromising mitotic checkpoint control.
