Target Information
The OPRM1 gene encodes the mu opioid receptor, which serves as the primary site of action for common opioids such as morphine, heroin, fentanyl, and methadone. It also binds endogenous opioid peptides including beta-endorphin and enkephalins.
The OPRM1 receptor is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family, and three major opioid receptor types—mu, kappa, and delta—exhibit distinct pharmacologic profiles.
