Target Information
The SERPIN superfamily comprises high molecular weight serine proteinase inhibitors. A critical portion of the molecule, the reactive center loop, connects beta sheets A and C. Protease inhibitor-8 (PI8; SERPINB8) belongs to the ov-serpin subfamily, which shows high homology to chicken ovalbumin, lacks N- and C-terminal extensions, has no signal peptide, and contains a serine residue at the penultimate position instead of asparagine, as seen in the archetypal serpin PI1 (MIM 107400).
