Target Information
The murine gene Suv39h2 encodes an H3 histone methyltransferase (HMTase) that shares 59% sequence identity with mouse Suv39h1. During embryogenesis, both proteins overlap in tissue expression, but Suv39h2 transcripts are restricted to testes in adult animals. Immunolocalization studies show enrichment at heterochromatin from the leptotene to round spermatid stages. Suv39h2 accumulates with chromatin of sex chromosomes undergoing transcriptional silencing during meiotic prophase and may contribute to meiotic heterochromatin organization and epigenetic imprinting in the male germline.
