Target Information
The NBPF7 gene belongs to the neuroblastoma breakpoint family (NBPF), which includes dozens of duplicated genes located mainly on human chromosome 1. This gene family expanded significantly in humans and to a lesser extent in other primates. Members contain tandemly repeated DUF1220 protein domains. Variations in the 1q21.1 region, where DUF1220 domains are located, are associated with developmental and neurogenetic disorders such as microcephaly, macrocephaly, autism, schizophrenia, congenital heart disease, and neuroblastoma. Altered expression of some NBPF genes is linked to various cancers. The family also contains numerous pseudogenes.
