Product Specific Information

This antibody is specific for the envelope protein of West Nile Virus.
It detects both West Nile Virus and St. Louis Encephalitis, and does not react with Japanese Encephalitis, Yellow Fever, Dengue, Tick-Borne Encephalitis, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, Western Equine Encephalitis, Powassan, La Crosse Encephalitis, or Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis.
Purity is >90%.


Target Information

West Nile Virus (WNV) is a member of the Flaviviridae family, which includes St. Louis encephalitis virus, yellow fever virus, and Dengue virus.
WNV was first isolated in 1937 in Uganda and has since spread across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the continental United States.
The virus consists of a dense core (core/capsid protein) encapsulating the RNA genome, surrounded by a membrane envelope with embedded envelope and matrix proteins that mediate viral entry into host cells.
The viral core protein may contribute to WNV-associated inflammation via apoptosis induced through the caspase-9 pathway, as demonstrated by cell death and inflammation following core gene delivery into mouse brain and skeletal muscle.
