MAGEB1 유전자는 MAGEB 유전자 패밀리에 속하며, 이 패밀리의 구성원들은 마지막 엑손에 전체 코딩 서열이 위치하고 서로 50~68%의 서열 유사성을 보입니다. 프로모터와 첫 번째 엑손의 다양성으로 인해 동일한 기능이 서로 다른 전사 조절 하에서 발현될 수 있습니다.
이 유전자는 DSS(dosage-sensitive sex reversal) 영역에 위치하며, 고환과 다양한 조직 유형의 종양에서 발현됩니다. MAGEB 계열 유전자들은 X 염색체 Xp22-p21 영역에 군집되어 있으며, 여러 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
