Target Information
GPR105 (also known as P2RY14) has been reported to be expressed in the brain. ESTs have been isolated from kidney, placenta, uterus, and heart/melanocyte/uterus libraries.
G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) represent one of the largest families of signaling molecules, with over a thousand members predicted. All GPCRs share a structural motif of seven membrane-spanning helices and exist in both active and inactive forms.
Activating ligands induce conformational changes leading to signaling via G-proteins and downstream effectors. Studies have also revealed mechanisms of negative regulation of GPCRs, which are crucial for cellular physiological responses and pharmacological research.
Notably, GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough) dominate the mental health and allergy markets.
