Target Information
This gene encodes a highly conserved nuclear protein involved in kinetochore function and required for the G1/S and G2/M transitions. Human Sgt1 (Suppressor of the G2 allele of Skp1) has two isoforms: Sgt-1A and Sgt-1B. This protein interacts with heat shock protein 90. Sgt1 translocates to the nucleus upon heat shock, and the Ca(2+)-bound form of S100A6 is required for this translocation. S100A6-Ca(2+)-mediated Sgt1 dephosphorylation promotes nuclear translocation, likely due to disruption of the Sgt1-Hsp90 complex. SUGT1 (Sgt-1) protein expression has been observed in lung, testis, liver, and brain, and is overexpressed in human colorectal cancer.
