Target Information
The ISL1 gene encodes a member of the LIM/homeodomain family of transcription factors. The encoded protein binds to enhancer regions of genes such as the insulin gene and plays a key role in regulating insulin gene expression. It is essential for the development of pancreatic cell lineages and motor neuron generation. Mutations in this gene are associated with maturity-onset diabetes of the young.
