Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally to modulate lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency increases HDL cholesterol in animals. LIPG exhibits significant phospholipase activity and plays a role in lipid metabolism and vascular biology. It belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region conferring substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, aids in fat digestion, and binds to heparin.
