Target Information
The protein encoded by the PFKFB3 gene belongs to a family of bifunctional enzymes involved in the synthesis and degradation of fructose-2,6-bisphosphate, a key regulator of glycolysis. It exhibits both 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase and fructose-2,6-biphosphatase activities. This protein is essential for cell cycle progression and apoptosis prevention. It regulates cyclin-dependent kinase 1, linking glucose metabolism to cell proliferation and survival in tumor cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
