Target Information
CD19 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and contains two Ig-like domains. It is expressed on nearly all peripheral B cells and some myeloid leukemia cells. CD19 serves as a key regulator of normal and malignant B cell proliferation and is expressed in all B cell precursor leukemias.
As a cell surface molecule, CD19 associates with the B cell receptor (BCR) complex to lower the activation threshold for antigen-dependent stimulation. It acts as both a signal-amplifying coreceptor and an independent signaling molecule that integrates multiple signaling pathways.
Mutations in the CD19 gene can lead to hypogammaglobulinemia, while overexpression causes B cell hyperactivity.
