Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids.
FARS2 is a mitochondrial phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) consisting of a single polypeptide chain, unlike the (alpha-beta)₂ structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cytoplasmic forms.
FARS1 encodes a mitochondrially-located PheRS with similar structural characteristics, indicating mitochondrial PheRSs may form a distinct class from their cytoplasmic counterparts.
