Target Information
ZBED1 (also known as DREF) is the human homolog of the Drosophila DNA replication-related element-binding factor. It functions as a transcriptional regulator required for the expression of genes involved in DNA replication and cell proliferation.
RNA interference targeting ZBED1 RNA inhibits S-phase entry and reduces histone H1 mRNA levels in HeLa cells, indicating a role in human cell proliferation.
At least 22 ribosomal protein genes have ZBED1 binding sites in their promoters, and knockdown of ZBED1 decreases their expression.
Immunoprecipitation studies show that ZBED1 self-associates in vivo through a C-terminal hATC domain, which is essential for nuclear localization and DNA binding.
