Target Information
CD25 (IL2 receptor alpha chain, IL2RA) is a cytokine receptor involved in the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. The IL2RA receptor forms a heterotrimeric complex with IL2RB and IL2RG, constituting a high-affinity IL2 receptor.
Homodimeric IL2RA chains produce low-affinity receptors, while IL2RB homodimers yield medium-affinity receptors. Expression of IL2 in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, allowing precise gene regulation.
IL2 is primarily produced by mature T cells and functions as a growth and differentiation factor, as well as a regulator of cell death. It stimulates B cell proliferation, enhances natural killer cell activity, and inhibits granulocyte macrophage colony formation.
Disruption of the IL2RA gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its role in immune response regulation. Mutations are associated with interleukin 2 receptor alpha deficiency.
